US-China relations warming up? New ambassador swiftly meets with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi

The situation between China and the United States has changed! Unlike his predecessor, Ambassador Burns, the new U.S. Ambassador to China has not been sidelined. Just over a month into his tenure, he has been granted the opportunity to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. On June 3rd, according to domestic media reports, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to China, David Bisbee, in Beijing. This is also the first time that the U.S. Ambassador to China has met with our Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

As an important channel for communication between China and the United States, the role of the U.S. Ambassador to China is extremely crucial. At present, given the relationship between the two countries, the willingness of the U.S. to engage with us is undoubtedly very strong. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, White House spokesperson Adrienne Watson, and White House economic advisor Stephen Moore have all called on us, hoping for direct high-level communication between China and the U.S.

This time, when meeting with our Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the U.S. Ambassador adopted a relatively humble posture. Bisbee expressed on the spot that former President Trump respected China greatly and emphasized the importance of positive and constructive exchanges between the heads of state of both countries. As the Ambassador to China, he is willing to maintain close communication with China based on mutual respect and listening, with sincerity. Clearly, Bisbee hopes to release more positive signals to create conditions for higher-level dialogue between China and the U.S. Perhaps, high-level meetings between the two sides are highly likely to take place.
