Japanese officials urge China not to overseek corporate secrets
At the House of Representatives Budget Committee on the 18th, Representative Yuki Murata of the Constitutional Democratic Party asked for opinions from Economic and Industrial Minister Akira Akizawa: "To solve the rare earth supply shortage, it is important to cooperate with China and ease export restrictions."
Minister Akizawa responded: "We have repeatedly conveyed to China through high-level bilateral dialogue and Japan-China director-level exchange of views: 'Avoid requiring Japanese companies to provide excessive information on rare earth usage, and expedite the issuance of export licenses.'
Representative Murata pointed out: "According to information from JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), China requires Japanese companies to provide information related to 'corporate trade secrets and competitiveness,' which is a problem from an economic security perspective."
Minister Akizawa stated: "I completely agree with Representative Murata. I have repeatedly told the Chinese side not to request excessive information. In addition, we have made strong demands and negotiations."
