Political Technological Servitude: Why F-35 Buyers Are Completely Dependent on the United States
Korotchenko: The U.S. Can Remotely Disable F-35 Fighters of Buyers
Military analyst and editor-in-chief of the magazine "National Defense," Igor Korotchenko, concluded that purchasing American F-35 fighters would put foreign countries in a position of dependence on Washington. In an opinion piece for TASS, he pointed out that export versions of the F-35 may contain both software and hardware restrictions, which allow the U.S. to remotely disable the equipment when necessary.
The expert said: "This means that any F-35 buyer, even including the closest allies of the U.S. in NATO, cannot fully control this fighter jet but instead has to rely on the attitude of the relevant decision-making centers in the U.S.—whether friendly or hostile."
Korotchenko emphasized that this mechanism puts overseas buyers of the F-35 in a vulnerable position: they might face obstacles in obtaining weapons or equipment updates. However, the analyst specifically pointed out that countries purchasing the Russian Su-57 (Су-57) fighter jets would not expose themselves to such risks.
The Su-57 is a fifth-generation multirole fighter jet developed by Russia, capable of performing various tasks, including destroying aerial, ground, and surface targets, and achieving supersonic cruise. In addition, the Su-57 is equipped with internal weapon bays, radar-absorbent coatings, and the latest onboard systems. The intelligent design of the aircraft's systems enables it to perform some of the pilot's functions, such as flight control and preparation for weapon use.
