German media: Russia says peace talks with Ukraine are "paused" - Zelenskyy urges allies to urge China to pressure Russia

Russia said on Friday that peace talks with Ukraine are currently in a "pause." Trump again expressed that Putin's patience is running out. Zelenskyy called on his allies to urge China to use its influence over Russia to stop Moscow's aggression. Meanwhile, tensions in Europe are escalating.

Russia said on September 12 that peace talks with Kyiv are currently in a "pause." At the same time, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy warned that Russian President Putin still intends to occupy the entire Ukraine.

US President Trump said his patience with Putin is running out. NATO announced it will strengthen its deployment on the eastern border after Russian drones entered Polish airspace and were shot down.

Russia conducted large-scale joint military exercises with its important ally Belarus, further complicating the already struggling diplomatic process.

Despite Trump's claim of wanting direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, and his meeting with Putin in Alaska, there is no clear sign of a ceasefire in the war that began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Russian forces have occupied parts of Ukrainian territory. Putin said that if peace talks do not meet his conditions - including Ukraine ceding more territory - the war will continue.

Zelenskyy: Putin's goal is to occupy the entire Ukraine

Kremlin spokesman Peskov told the media on Friday: "Our negotiators can communicate through relevant channels. But now, a more accurate statement is that the talks have been paused."

He added: "You cannot look at things through rose-colored glasses and expect negotiations to produce immediate results."

Zelenskyy said at a meeting in Kyiv that the West should not believe Putin.

"Putin's goal is to occupy the entire Ukraine. No matter what he says, it cannot hide the fact that he has launched the war machine, and it will not stop unless forced to change its goals," Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy also called on his allies to urge China to use its influence over Russia to stop Moscow's aggression.

Trump's patience is about to "run out"

Trump has repeatedly threatened to impose more sanctions on Russia, and even issued a "ultimatum" to Putin in July, demanding he stop killing in Ukraine within 10 to 12 days. However, he has never fulfilled his promise, which has frustrated Ukraine.

When asked if he was impatient with Russia's reluctance to end the war, Trump told Fox News: "My patience is almost gone, and it will be soon. But dancing tango requires two people."

He also said: "It's surprising that when Putin is willing to talk, Zelenskyy isn't; when Zelenskyy is willing to talk, Putin refuses. Now Zelenskyy wants to talk, and Putin has become a question mark. We will have to take an extremely firm stance."

The Ukraine has clearly stated that it will not exchange territory for a peace agreement. The Ukrainian side has called for a summit between Zelenskyy and Putin to break the deadlock.

However, Putin has basically ruled out this possibility. He also threatened that any Western soldiers entering Ukraine as peacekeepers without his consent would become targets of attack.

Russia's invasion has caused thousands of deaths in Ukraine and displaced millions of people. Large areas in the east and south of Ukraine have been severely damaged.

Drone incident escalates European tensions

Europe is under tense situations. Poland said on Wednesday, September 10, that 19 Russian drones flew into its airspace. Three of them were shot down by NATO and Polish fighter jets deployed urgently.

On Friday, September 12, Poland and about 40 of its allies condemned the invasion, calling on Moscow to avoid further "provocations."

Poland's deputy foreign minister Boscinski said before an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council: "Russia's crude actions are an escalation of destabilizing measures."

NATO Secretary General Rüte said that NATO will strengthen its deployment on the eastern flank. Denmark, France, the UK, and Germany will provide military support in the coming days.

The UK announced new sanctions against Russia, targeting weapon and equipment suppliers, as well as so-called "shadow fleets" - Russian vessels evading sanctions.

The EU extended sanctions against more than 2,500 Russian officials and entities for another six months.

Poland rejects Trump's excuse for Russia

Poland's Prime Minister Tusk said that the Russian drones flying over Poland were not an "accident." He rejected Trump's statement that it might be a mistake.

Tusk warned that Poland is currently facing the closest situation to an "open conflict" since World War II.

Russia denied attacking Poland and said that Poland had provided no evidence that these drones came from Russia.

The joint military exercises with Belarus began on Friday, September 12, further escalating the tensions.

The exercises included drills near the border with Poland and Lithuania, as well as in the Baltic Sea and the Barents Sea.

The Russian Defense Ministry released video of the exercises. The footage showed a large number of heavy equipment, including armored vehicles, helicopters, and naval vessels.

Russia and Belarus denied that the two countries posed a threat. However, Poland said it will deploy about 40,000 troops near the Belarusian border during the exercises.
