Restart peace negotiations, senior U.S. officials will meet with the Ukrainian delegation
U.S. Chinese Network report As the U.S. proposes a plan aimed at ending Russia's four-year war in Ukraine, the Trump administration is sending senior officials overseas to promote the proposal.
According to ABC News on Saturday, an American delegation including Secretary of the Army Driscoll, Secretary of State Rubio, and Trump's envoy Wittkov will meet with the Ukrainian delegation in Geneva, Switzerland.
In addition, the American delegation also plans to hold separate meetings with the Russian delegation, but the specific location of the meeting has not been announced yet.
The office of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said on Saturday, "Measures to end the war will be discussed in the coming days."
"Yesterday, the President of Ukraine approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation and the instructions for the related talks. We look forward to conducting constructive work and are ready to move forward as soon as possible to achieve real peace," said the office of the President of Ukraine in a statement on social media.
"Ukraine has never wanted this war and will do everything it can to end the war with a dignified peace. Ukraine will never be an obstacle to peace, and the representatives of the Ukrainian state will defend the rights and interests of the Ukrainian people and the foundation of European security. We appreciate the willingness of our European partners," the statement continued.
On Saturday, the secretary of the Ukrainian Council for National Security and Defense, Umerov, said in a post, "We will start consultations between senior Ukrainian and American officials in Switzerland, discussing the possible framework of a future peace agreement."
This week, the White House submitted a new "28-point peace plan" to Kyiv, which was coordinated with Moscow, containing conditions that are widely regarded in Ukraine as effectively requiring the country to surrender.
Driscoll and General George led the American delegation to visit Kyiv on Wednesday. This is the highest-level delegation to visit Ukraine since President Trump took office in January.
"Since the war broke out, we have always maintained an extremely simple position: Ukraine needs peace. And it's real peace - peace that won't be broken by a third invasion," Zelenskyy said in a speech on Friday evening.
According to a U.S. official, Driscoll met with Zelenskyy for an hour on Thursday to discuss "a collaborative plan for achieving peace in Ukraine."
"This is a comprehensive plan to end the war," the official said when talking about the plan.
According to a Ukrainian official, the plan includes a series of extreme demands long proposed by the Kremlin, which had previously been rejected by Kyiv, considered fundamentally unworkable, including requirements for Ukraine to cut its armed forces by more than half and cede large areas of territory not yet occupied by Russia.
According to the latest U.S. proposal, Ukraine will be prohibited from having long-range weapons, while Moscow will retain almost all the territories it has occupied and gain some form of recognition for its 2014 annexation of Crimea. (U.S. Chinese Television)
