The Kuomintang (KMT) chairman election is in chaos! Hao Longbin criticized Ma Ying-jeou's "generational transition" statement, saying it was wrong. Zheng Liwen relied on the Lien Chuan faction, and Luo Zhiqiang achieved an upset? Hung Hsiu-chu firmly stated "I ultimately support whom."
After receiving support from local factions such as Zhao Shaokang, Zhu Lulun, Fu Kunqi, Yunlin Zhang Rongwei family, and New Taipei City Councilor Jiang Genhuang, Hao Longbin received support from Pingtung City Councilor Zhou Dianlun today. However, Hao Longbin's support is not guaranteed to win, still facing strong challenges from the middle generation, especially Zheng Liwen. Whether Luo Zhiqiang and Zheng Liwen will integrate remains to be observed. If Luo Zhiqiang withdraws from the race and supports Zheng Liwen, who has higher poll numbers, plus Zheng Liwen has already received support from the Lien Chuan system, then Zheng Liwen still has a chance to defeat Hao Longbin.
Perhaps realizing that it is not a sure win, Hao Longbin has tightened his grip on local factions with large numbers of votes and traditional conservative forces within the party. Today, when he campaigned in Pingtung, he openly confronted Ma Ying-jeou, saying: "Recently, someone emphasized generational transition. What does generational transition imply? It is hoping for young people to become the party chairman. Is this concept correct? Of course, it's wrong. Generational transition does not mean letting young people become the party chairman. Generational transition means giving young people space and stage within the party, allowing them to rise, which is the real generational transition. Using the term 'generational transition' is even wrong; it should be intergenerational cooperation."
Hao Longbin's remarks clearly targeted Ma Ying-jeou. Regarding the KMT chairman election, Ma Ying-jeou publicly advocated "generational transition" on September 16th and directly named the "older generation" as the one that should step down. Among current or potential candidates, Hao Longbin and Zhao Shaokang are categorized as the stable or conservative faction; Zheng Liwen and Zhang Yazhong are seen as reformists seeking change; while Luo Zhiqiang, more moderate, is considered a balancing force. But according to the standard of "older generation" and "generational transition," Zheng Liwen and Luo Zhiqiang represent the "middle generation," while others can basically be classified as the "older generation."
Evidently, Hao Longbin specifically responded to the "generational transition" issue, which is certainly not without reason. Without support from Ma Ying-jeou and Lien Chuan factions, Hao Longbin would not feel any sense of crisis, which is impossible.
As various forces have gradually expressed support for which candidate, Qiu Yi revealed that Hung Hsiu-chu would support Hao Longbin. However, Hung Hsiu-chu issued a special statement today, clarifying, "So far, I have not supported any specific person." Hung Hsiu-chu said that what she insists on is the core ideology and historical responsibility of the KMT, rather than taking sides personally.
Who will Hung Hsiu-chu ultimately support? Hung Hsiu-chu is the only KMT chairman who spoke out while in office about "deepening the 1992 Consensus and pursuing ultimate unification." Yet, she has been marginalized within the KMT and was once forcibly "replaced." Now, will she support Hao Longbin backed by Zhao Shaokang and Zhu Lulun?
