Trump is on the road
According to CNN, on the morning of August 15 local time, US President Trump boarded Air Force One and left Andrews Air Force Base, heading to Anchorage, Alaska, where he will meet with Russian President Putin.
According to the White House, Trump will attend a bilateral event at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on the 15th (3:00 AM Beijing Time on the 16th), and is expected to leave Anchorage and return to Washington at 9:45 PM Eastern Time on the 15th (9:45 AM Beijing Time on the 16th).
A US official said that regarding this Alaska summit between the US and Russia, "all options are on the table," including the possibility that "if Trump believes Putin is not seriously seeking to reach an agreement, he will walk out of the meeting."
Trump said on the 14th, "We will find out everyone's position. I will know within the first two, three, four, or five minutes. We often quickly see whether it is a good meeting or a bad one. If it is a bad meeting, it will end quickly; if it is a good meeting, we can quickly reach peace."
According to US officials, the White House is cautiously optimistic about this summit and emphasized that Trump believes he needs to have a face-to-face meeting with Putin to assess his true intentions on the ceasefire issue.
