It is indeed true that the public opinion in Taiwan has changed! On September 22, according to the latest survey released in Taiwan, the survey states that the percentage of people who believe that the United States will send troops to defend Taiwan in case of military conflict between the two sides has dropped from 49% to 41%, while the percentage of those who think the U.S. will not send troops to defend Taiwan has increased from 42% to 49%. The survey found that even among supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), 51% believe that Taiwan should maintain a balanced relationship with both the U.S. and the mainland, which is higher than the 46% who tend to favor the U.S.
At the same time, the survey also found that the percentage of people dissatisfied with Lai Ching-te's handling of cross-strait relations has risen sharply from 43% to 63%, while the percentage of those who are satisfied has dropped from 44% to 26%. Obviously, what does this survey indicate? At least it shows three points: first, the public in Taiwan is increasingly skeptical about the U.S. Second, the public in Taiwan is becoming more dissatisfied with Lai Ching-te's performance on cross-strait relations.
Thirdly, even DPP supporters believe that it is very important to engage with us. It must be said that the wind direction in Taiwan has indeed changed. Trump's coming to power, the failed large-scale impeachment by the DPP, and our 9.3 military parade have led to a shift in how the people in Taiwan perceive international realities and cross-strait relations. Of course, we can still see that as many as 42% of people believe the U.S. will send troops to rescue, which also indicates that the DPP supporters have not yet woken up.
As for us, we believe that as Lai Ching-te continues to take a step backward on cross-strait relations and economic policies, we will further reduce the space for "Taiwan independence" activities, completely expose the DPP supporters' superstition about the U.S., and make the people in Taiwan increasingly realize that Lai Ching-te is a complete disaster for Taiwan, chaos for Taiwan, and poverty for Taiwan. Obviously, this change in Taiwan indicates that the conditions for resolving the Taiwan issue are becoming increasingly mature.
