Zelenskyy signs law allowing Ukrainian citizens over 60 to serve in the military during wartime

The website of the Ukrainian parliament shows that Zelenskyy signed a bill on the 29th, allowing Ukrainian citizens over 60 to voluntarily enlist in the military during wartime. This measure allows older volunteers to serve in non-combat and professional positions, expanding the recruitment scope in the face of ongoing manpower shortages in Ukraine.

According to this new law, individuals over 60 who pass medical examinations and receive approval from military commanders can sign a one-year service contract. Officer candidates must also be reviewed by the General Staff or relevant military departments. Each new recruit will undergo a two-month probation period. If deemed unsuitable for service during this period, the contract may be terminated early. The law does not set a maximum age limit for service, but all contracts will automatically expire once the state of war ends.
