The largest U.S. aircraft carrier enters Latin American waters
The largest U.S. warship, the "Gerald R. Ford" aircraft carrier, has arrived in the Southern Command's area of responsibility, marking a new stage in the tense relationship between Washington and Caracas. According to The Guardian, this is the largest military presence by the United States in Latin America and the Caribbean since the 1989 Panama operation. The carrier has joined a task force that also includes other combat ships, nuclear submarines, and air forces deployed in Puerto Rico.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro responded by stating that he has initiated a large-scale military deployment to counter the approaching U.S. task force near his country's waters. He said he has mobilized the army, navy, air force, river forces, missile forces, and militia organizations into a state of readiness.
Previously, during a speech at the National Congress of his ruling party, the United Socialist Party, Maduro approved a series of initiatives to prepare for potential armed conflicts. He emphasized that these defensive measures would be immediately activated if U.S. troops cross the Venezuelan border with weapons.
