Yoshinobu Noda's speech after the election defeat (I personally believe this is a major responsibility that I cannot bear with my life)

Dear media friends, thank you for your hard work.

The results of the 51st House of Representatives Election have been announced. First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the citizens who supported "The Center-Right Reform Coalition." At the same time, I also extend my sincere apologies and condolences to all the candidates who lost in this election, as well as all party members, supporters, and staff who worked hard for the election.

This severe defeat is a huge responsibility for me as the leader, and I personally believe this is a major responsibility that I cannot bear with my life. The outcome of this election was greatly influenced by an indescribable special atmosphere. If this was indeed a strategy of the ruling party, then from this perspective, we were defeated by the ruling party. At present, the Japanese political arena is filled with a special atmosphere that goes beyond specific issues such as the Liberal Democratic Party's policies and political funding problems. We faced this overwhelming situation on the voting day.

All successes and failures must be judged by the results. This severe defeat, as the leader, I undoubtedly bear the primary responsibility. I personally believe this is a major responsibility that I cannot bear with my life, and I will attend the subsequent leadership meeting with this awareness.

In the short term, the ruling party holds an absolute majority in the Diet, and it is an undeniable fact that our presence has vanished completely. However, through the various deliberations in the Diet, the situation may still change later, and we still have a great possibility of calling more people together.

We will carefully listen to the voices of the voters, deeply reflect on all issues in this election, quickly carry out the party's reform and reorganization, and strive unceasingly to achieve a true two-party system. I will, together with the co-leader Tetsuo Saito, take on the responsibilities that we should bear and steadily advance the relevant work.

Thank you all.
