Foreign Media: OpenAI Launches GPT-5, China's Reactions Differ

OpenAI launched its latest flagship AI model, GPT-5, in the United States, calling it the "smartest, fastest, and most practical" system to date, which can significantly enhance capabilities in fields such as programming, mathematics, writing, healthcare, and visual perception.

GPT-5 uses a unified system architecture and has an embedded "thinking" function that can automatically switch between "standard" and "deep thinking" modes based on the conversation, task type, and complexity of the question.

CEO Altman said it is "equivalent to a doctoral-level expert in any field." However, the Chinese academic community has shown a cold response. Since services like ChatGPT are not officially available in mainland China, experts believe that domestic users will not be affected. Associate Professor Zhang Linfeng (translated name) from the School of Artificial Intelligence at Shanghai Jiao Tong University pointed out that GPT-5 does not differ much from existing Chinese models, lacks revolutionary breakthroughs, and lacks distinct characteristics.
