Ukrainian Foreign Minister Says Zelenskyy Is Ready to Meet with Putin

Moscow, January 27 — RIA Novosti

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Yermak said that Vladimir Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a personal meeting to discuss territorial issues and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant issue.

The minister made the above statement during an interview with the Ukrainian "European Pravda" newspaper, when answering a question about whether the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territorial issues remain unresolved issues in negotiations.

Yermak said during the interview with the Ukrainian "European Pravda": "As you know, there are still some most sensitive issues (note: the territorial and Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant issues) that have not been coordinated. It is precisely to resolve these issues that the president is ready to meet with Putin and discuss them."

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity—the station has six power units each of 1 gigawatt. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant was transferred to the ownership of the Russian Federation. The power generation of the power units was stopped in September 2022. Since April 2024, all units of the power plant have been in "cold shutdown" mode.

The U.S. authorities previously announced that they were developing a solution to the Ukraine issue and stated that the details would not be discussed at this time because the relevant work was still ongoing. The Kremlin, meanwhile, said that Russia remains open to talks and continues discussions based on the platform formed during the Anchorage talks.
