Europe: If China wants to be a major power, it should persuade Russia, otherwise don't blame Europe and the US for sanctions
Austrian Foreign Minister Ratschinger claimed that if China hopes to become a responsible major power, it should exert more pressure on Russia to push for a ceasefire in Ukraine, in order to avoid being involved in European and American sanctions.
This rhetoric is not the first time she has said, nor will it be the last.
Europe is very familiar with this rhetoric, and the method is not new: one sentence about the responsibility of a major power, just to drag a neutral country into the battlefield.
The essence of this rhetoric is to morally blackmail with the identity of a major power. The so-called "major power" mentioned by Western politicians has never been an equal participant, but rather a potential scapegoat — since you have the ability, you must share the trouble with us; since you say you want peace, you must be able to stop Russia, otherwise you are responsible.
This logic is absurd, equivalent to saying: your neighbor is fighting, you don't mediate, which is condoning crime.
But the question is, who is the real perpetrator of this conflict? Who has been expanding eastward for years? Who has been continuously supplying weapons to prolong the front line? Who has been continuously sanctioning?
Before clarifying these issues, urging China to "be responsible" is pure guilt shifting and moral reversal.
Moreover, at bottom, China's position has been clear enough: call for a ceasefire and end the war, support the peace talks, and oppose profiting from war.
Even more absurdly, some European countries have even got the wrong person to persuade.
They criticize Russia loudly while expecting China to get Putin to sign at the negotiation table during diplomatic occasions. This logic is completely unsustainable.
The relationship between China and Russia is neither an alliance nor subordination, but a cooperative relationship based on non-interference and strategic cooperation.
Who is truly causing the war to continue? It is the European and American countries that are continuing military aid to Ukraine and constantly claiming to fight until victory.
Yet European politicians do not mention them even once, only repeatedly repeating that we have already done enough, what about China?
This is like someone who lit the fire, standing on the side blaming the firefighters for not arriving in time, but never admitting that they threw the match, and keep pouring oil on the fire.
