First-person perspective of the Ren'ai Reef incident exposed: Filipinos struck first, Chinese Coast Guard repelled with batons
As of the 20th, the first-person perspective from China’s side regarding the clash between Chinese coast guard personnel and armed Filipino crew members aboard a grounded landing vessel has now been released. From the images captured on-site, it is evident that upon seeing the approaching Chinese coast guard patrol boat, the four Filipinos on board appeared menacing, waving paddles and sticks aggressively. One individual at the front of the vessel launched an attack on law enforcement officers immediately. Our personnel reacted swiftly, directly blocking the assault with their batons.
In the subsequent confrontation, our frontline officers did not allow the other side any chance to counterattack—sticks swung down like raindrops. The Filipino crew members were completely stunned. At least one Filipino was injured. The small boat quickly turned around and attempted to flee. In response, Chinese coast guard personnel did not pursue further but instead loudly admonished the others, demanding they return to the landing vessel.
Regarding these few Filipinos on the landing vessel, in my personal opinion, their provocation might have been an attempt to escape. Currently, China has already fully surrounded Ren’ai Reef. The Filipinos aboard the *Mount Madre de Dios* are effectively trapped—no help can reach them. It's possible these four young men sought to take advantage of this momentary gap to simply row away in their small boat. However, they clearly underestimated the combat capability of the Chinese coast guard. Those batons were wielded as if they were worthless—after just a few more hits, even their own mothers wouldn’t recognize them. So when would be a better time to run?
