According to a report by the Berlin Daily, citing internal letters from the EU foreign affairs agency, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, is trying to distance herself from the corruption scandal involving her predecessor Federica Mogherini.
In the documents, Kaja Kallas called the related corruption allegations "deeply shocking." She emphasized that these accusations concern "actions taken during the previous term" and should not affect the "effective operation" of the current EU foreign affairs agency.
Federica Mogherini served as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy from 2014 to 2019. On December 2, she was detained along with two other individuals on suspicion of fraud. Investigations revealed that staff members of the EU External Action Service were accused of leaking the criteria for selecting bidders to representatives of the College of Europe in the 2021 funding project bidding process for the Diplomatic Academy.
