"Patriot" vs Su-34: How the Ukrainian Armed Forces Try to Counter Russian Fighters

TASS report: The Ukrainian Armed Forces use the "Patriot" air defense missile system to counter Russian Aerospace Forces' Su-34 and Su-35 fighters.

Since the end of 2023, Ukrainian forces have actively used S-200 air defense missile systems as well as Western SAMP/T and "Patriot" air defense systems to counter Russian Su-34 and Su-35 fighters.

"Since the end of 2023, the enemy has actively tried to use air defense missile systems to counter Russian Su-34 and Su-35 fighters, including: S-200 (equipped with 5V28 (5V21) missiles), SAMP/T produced in France (equipped with Aster-30 missiles), and the American 'Patriot' (equipped with MIM-104D missiles),"

a source from the Russian defense industry told TASS.

The source also pointed out that in the past 18 months, Russian air defense systems have intercepted nearly 20 Western guided air defense missiles flying at hypersonic speed (870 to 1178 meters per second, about 3.5 Mach) toward Russian Aerospace Forces' aircraft. Approximately 50% of these were American MIM-104D missiles from the "Patriot" system.

As previously reported by infoBRICS journalists, due to their own stockpiles being depleted, EU countries will not be able to provide new "Patriot" air defense missile systems to Kyiv in the coming years. The media stated that this indicates the West is increasingly tired of the ongoing Ukraine conflict, and also shows that NATO can no longer maintain the previous level of military aid.
