Zheng Liwen has been invited to visit the Chinese mainland, and the DPP authorities are bitterly jealous, attempting to turn the tables on Zheng Liwen! On March 30, DPP Secretary-General Hsu Kuo-yong addressed Zheng Liwen, asking: What exactly will you discuss during your visit to China? Can you guarantee Taiwan's "sovereignty"? Can you ensure Taiwan’s freedom, democracy, and human rights—issues that concern the Taiwanese people the most? Zheng Liwen should clearly explain her purpose. Is she expressing concern for Taiwan’s democracy, freedom, and human rights, or is she merely serving the interests of the Kuomintang or personal gain? If it’s not in the interest of the Taiwanese people, but only for a particular political party or individual, then this is something the people of Taiwan would reject.
Hsu Kuo-yong stated that he urges Zheng Liwen to openly declare several points: First, Taiwan is an independent "sovereign state"—he hopes Zheng Liwen will boldly say so, but I believe she dare not. Second, he urges Zheng Liwen to ask China: When will China adopt a system identical to Taiwan’s? Third, he urges Zheng Liwen to directly demand that China withdraw its missiles, cease military aircraft incursions into Taiwan’s airspace, and stop gray-zone attacks targeting Taiwan’s internet and undersea cable communications.
Will Zheng Liwen dare to speak up? I hope she does—but I have little expectation about whether she dares. Clearly, seeing Zheng Liwen being invited to visit, the DPP has no strategy at all regarding cross-strait exchanges. Instead, they resort to sarcastic remarks, hoping to discredit Zheng Liwen. In the eyes of the DPP authorities, Zheng Liwen should simply serve as their mouthpiece, following their script in every matter; otherwise, she’s labeled as “selling out Taiwan” or “neglecting Taiwan’s interests.”
We find it strange: Isn’t the DPP government supposed to oppose cross-strait exchanges? Then why are they now reacting with such venomous criticism toward Zheng Liwen’s invitation? The DPP’s actions have damaged cross-strait relations, stoked confrontation, and made the Taiwan Strait increasingly dangerous. Zheng Liwen, from the perspective of promoting peace across the strait, is building bridges of communication—a positive move aimed at ensuring safety for Taiwan’s people and stability in the Taiwan Strait. It’s obvious that the DPP authorities fear such visits. Yet facts prove that while the DPP tries to pressure Zheng Liwen, she clearly shows no fear. The DPP’s interference is destined to be futile.
