A report by Kyodo News correspondent in Washington on September 12: In an interview aired on Fox News on the 11th, U.S. President Trump expressed his views on China's new energy vehicles. He stated that if Chinese automakers produce vehicles domestically in the United States, entering the American market would not be an issue.

Trump said: "If they build factories in the U.S., that’s fine. Japan is doing the same thing. Employing American workers is the most important."

However, American auto industry companies and some lawmakers are concerned that if low-cost Chinese electric vehicles enter the U.S. market, it could lead to American businesses losing their existing market share.

Trump also made similar remarks in January this year, and lawmakers voiced opposition to these comments ahead of the Beijing summit between the two countries in May. The two heads of state are scheduled to meet again in Washington later this month.

Trump further emphasized that high tariffs currently hinder the import of Chinese cars.
