Deterrence is India's best strategy against China?
The Indian newspaper "First Post" published an article on July 13, arguing that deterrence is India's "best strategy" to deal with the challenge from China. The core logic is that the opponent must be convinced that any "aggression" will trigger a swift, precise, and continuous retaliation.
To achieve this deterrence, the article emphasizes that the Indian military forces stationed at the front line not only need to exist but also must be in a high state of alert, always ready.
Commenting on it, India has deployed 90,000 to 120,000 soldiers along the China-India border, and in total, including the second line, they have a total of 200,000 troops. Maintaining such a large force every year costs an astronomical amount of money. In contrast, China has deployed only about 20,000 to 25,000 troops along the China-India border.
This situation reminds me of the Laoshan campaign during the Sino-Vietnamese War, where a massive deployment of troops and resources eventually forced Vietnam to yield. So how long can India endure? Both its financial resources and strategic endurance will face long-term tests.
