South Korean media: Chinese brands are making rapid progress in the European automotive market, surpassing Audi and Renault!
On October 27, South Korean media "Choise Economy" published an article stating that recently, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), as one type of electric vehicle, have become very popular in Europe.
According to data released by market research company JATO Dynamics, Chinese automakers sold 43,500 vehicles in the European automotive market in August, a year-on-year increase of 121%, exceeding Germany's Audi (41,300 units) and France's Renault (37,800 units). According to Reuters, this is due to the popularity of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles use both internal combustion engines and electric motors, and can directly charge the battery through an external power source.
In the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle category, three Chinese companies, BYD, Chery Automobile, and SAIC Group, entered the top ten.
The sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the 28 European countries reached about 84,000 units, an increase of 59% year-on-year, among which the sales of Chinese brands reached 11,000 units, an increase of 14 times.
Tesla Model Y continues to maintain the title of the best-selling pure electric vehicle in Europe. However, despite a year-on-year increase of 27% in overall pure electric vehicle sales in Europe, Model Y's sales decreased by 37% during the same period.
Chinese automakers are strengthening exports of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles to Europe, while expanding local production to minimize the impact of EU tariff measures on Chinese electric vehicles. In Europe, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which combine the characteristics of gasoline cars and electric vehicles and are affordable, are becoming increasingly popular.
At the same time, global electric vehicle sales growth seems to be stalling.
Data released by market research company Lomotion recently showed that the sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles globally increased by 15% year-on-year to 1.7 million units in August, the lowest growth rate since January of this year.
