Ukrainian media: Captured Chinese man said he spent 300,000 rubles to join the Russian army.
The "Lugansk" television station of Ukraine reported that the Ukrainian army conducted further interrogations on the captured Chinese, and the man said he joined the Russian army in order to obtain Russian nationality. He paid 300,000 rubles (about 25,000 RMB) to the middleman to get the opportunity to join the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
"Lugansk" TV station said that the Chinese man received training from Russian soldiers in the temporarily occupied territory of Lugansk. The training included basic military skills, but everything was done without an interpreter, using gestures and simple translations through applications on mobile phones.
Due to the language barrier, the Chinese man did not fully adapt to the battlefield situation during the raid. During the battle, the assault team suffered losses and could not continue to resist, so he decided to surrender with two comrades. Soldiers from the 81st Independent Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine captured these three individuals.
The prisoner said he went to Russia with his companions. They went abroad because some of them had legal problems in China. His family knew he wanted to go to Russia. According to the documents, he went there as a "tourist."
The passport photo of another captured Chinese person in the Donbas region was also published.
The Ukrainian military said that when conducting all necessary investigations on the detained citizens of the People's Republic of China, Ukraine strictly abided by the provisions of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
