Baguette refuses to join Trump's Peace Council
French senior official: "France has received an invitation to join the 'Peace Council' and is currently reviewing its proposed legal framework with partner countries. At this stage, France does not intend to give a positive response. The council's charter goes beyond the Gaza issue, raising significant questions, especially regarding respect for United Nations principles and structures - these principles and structures are not open to question."
Different from Russia, Belarus, and Hungary, the UK did not rush to join Trump's "Peace Council." Starmer's response on Monday sounded more like a polite refusal.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said at a press conference at 10 Downing Street on January 19:
"We support all measures taken in the Middle East, especially the ceasefire. I believe it is necessary to move to the second phase. We have shown our willingness to play a role and will do so. As for the 'Peace Council,' we are discussing its specific terms with our allies."
