On July 24, the head of the Zaporozhye region under Russian control posted on social media that he had awarded honors to Russian generals who had thwarted Ukraine's summer counteroffensive two years ago.

"On the occasion of the second anniversary of the heroic repulsion of a terrorist attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Zaporozhye region, I have signed an order to commend the commanders of the units that participated in repelling the counteroffensive in the Zaporozhye direction in 2023.

The following personnel have been awarded the first-class "Zaporozhye Hero" medal for demonstrating courage, professionalism and fulfilling their duties:

- Alexander Vladimirovich Romanchuk, General of the Army;

- Dmitry Igorevich Lyamin, General of the Army;

- Sergey Semyonovich Nurkov, Major General;

- Ivan Ivanovich Popov, Lieutenant General.

Russian military personnel have shown courage, self-sacrifice and heroism in defending the Zaporozhye region. Ukraine's 'summer counteroffensive' ended in failure, with the enemy suffering heavy losses.

In addition, a relief will be established on the 58th Army Street in Melitopol (formerly Komyunarov) to commemorate the great achievements of the soldiers.
