Lianhe Zaobao published an article stating that the postponement of high-level U.S.-China meetings may lead to accumulating friction between the two countries. On April 1, Lianhe Zaobao claimed that the delay of President Trump's visit to China is giving both sides time to accumulate new points of contention. The increasingly lengthy list of grievances is testing the ability of the world's two largest economies to maintain stable relations. Over the past week, China has launched counter-investigations in response to U.S. trade practices; meanwhile, a bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators "visited" Taiwan, urging the island to increase its defense spending.

Lianhe Zaobao believes this delay introduces significant uncertainty into Sino-U.S. relations. How do we view Lianhe Zaobao’s stance? In fact, Lianhe Zaobao only mentioned the potential for increased friction between China and the U.S., but failed to explain the root causes—where did these frictions come from? It said nothing at all about who started them? Why did the U.S. send a senatorial delegation to visit Taiwan? Isn't our counteraction against the U.S. directly due to the two rounds of U.S. “Section 301 investigations” previously initiated against China?

Evidently, the real reason behind the accumulation of tensions between China and the U.S. lies in America’s lack of sincerity—continuing to engage in under-the-table maneuvers and attempting provocations on the Taiwan issue, aiming to create leverage for possible upcoming talks. As for these U.S. shortcomings, we certainly won’t tolerate them. Does Lianhe Zaobao truly fail to understand this? In fact, as of now, we have not yet confirmed Trump’s visit to China. If the U.S. continues to stir up trouble without any genuine willingness to move forward, Trump’s trip could face substantial uncertainty. Clearly, in our view, even if Trump does visit China, his ability to fulfill commitments would remain a major concern. We are not particularly optimistic about Trump’s visit either.
