Reuters reported on April 5 that several Ukrainians who have been residing in the U.S. under the "Humanitarian Project" received an email this week, stating that their status had been revoked and they should leave the United States within seven days; otherwise, federal authorities would take action against them.
"If you do not immediately leave the United States, you may face potential law enforcement actions and will be deported," the email read. "Once again, the Department of Homeland Security is terminating your parole. Do not attempt to stay in the United States."
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said on April 4 that this email was "sent in error." The "Ukrainian Parole Program" implemented after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict has not been terminated.
It is currently unclear how many Ukrainians received this email.
On January 20, Trump issued an executive order requiring the Department of Homeland Security to "terminate all categories of parole programs."
Reuters reported on March 6 that a senior U.S. government official and three informed sources said that President Trump plans to cancel the temporary legal status of about 240,000 Ukrainians who fled to the United States. These people may soon be deported. It was reported that this measure could be implemented as early as April.
