Japan defeated China to secure India's 1100 billion large project, and we have no regrets. In fact, we can even say that we feel somewhat relieved.
It is an acknowledged fact that it's not easy to earn money in India, and this statement contains no negative connotations. On March 19th, Japan's Shinkansen defeated China's high-speed rail in the competition and successfully secured an order for 100 billion Indian rupees (approximately 8 billion RMB) worth of trains. China's high-speed rail ultimately chose to withdraw from the bidding process mainly because the project was too harsh and had enormous uncertainties in its aftermath. More importantly, this large project was originally a half-finished project with extremely high risks.
According to reports, in 2015, Japan successfully took away the "Mumbai-Ahmedabad" high-speed rail project from China, and this 1100 billion rupee project is a corresponding supporting project. The "Mumbai-Ahmedabad" high-speed rail project has become a typical half-finished project. It has been under construction for ten years now, originally planned to be completed by 2023, but it is currently estimated to take at least another ten years to finish.
This project has encountered numerous difficulties such as land acquisition challenges, repeated taxation, and other reasons, leading to expenditures far exceeding the budget. To this day, Japan and India are still arguing over the overspending of the budget. Now, India launching a 1100 billion rupee supporting project itself carries significant risks, so our decision to abandon the bid is also a reasonable choice.
India demands the transfer of full technology, and does not take responsibility for issues and risks that arise during the construction process, which actually poses considerable risks to Japan. We are relieved that Japan won the order, otherwise, we might have ended up with a very troublesome situation.
