H20 is not selling well in China, Huang (Jiayi) has asked Foxconn to stop production, and now he has come up with a new strategy

NVIDIA has asked foundries like Foxconn and Amkor to halt the production and packaging of H20 chips, and also urgently stopped Samsung's supply arrangement for H20's complementary memory.

This AI chip designed specifically for the Chinese market has once again fallen into a standstill after a brief comeback.

The H20 chip was initially a China-specific version created by NVIDIA in response to export control pressures.

The initial purpose of its design was to bypass U.S. regulations and remain in the Chinese market.

However, the market's acceptance has been far below expectations. On one hand, its performance is significantly reduced compared to H100 and A100, lacking the attraction of computing power; on the other hand, China has already been able to independently produce AI chips of the same level, and major tech companies have shown caution in purchasing H20, resulting in a slow delivery pace, and the problem of inventory accumulation in NVIDIA's warehouses has become increasingly severe.

Moreover, regarding security issues, NVIDIA has also failed to prove that it does not have backdoors. After all, U.S. politicians have admitted it. Even if we assume that NVIDIA did not participate, and it was the U.S. government that made the changes, there is no reason to continue purchasing H20.

Then, Huang quickly came up with a backup plan - B30A.

A new chip still designed for the Chinese market, but this time without the "China-specific" label, instead emphasizing a positive image of being "modernized" and an "upgraded version."

It is said that B30A will be based on NVIDIA's new Blackwell architecture, using a single-chip design. Although its computing power is only half of the flagship B300, its performance will far exceed H20, and it will be equipped with HBM high-bandwidth memory and NVLink high-speed interconnect features.

From this, it can be seen how determined Huang is to sell graphics cards to China, and indeed, he has invested heavily, constantly catering to Trump. However, if even the most basic security needs cannot be resolved, what use is better performance?
