America's appetite is not satisfied with merely possessing Ukraine's mineral resources, as energy pipelines are also its target.

Anonymous sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the negotiations between the Ukrainian delegation and the American delegation in Washington regarding the mineral resource transaction were conducted in an "adversarial" atmosphere, with dim prospects for a breakthrough.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Reinfeld confirmed that consultations on the draft mineral resource transaction agreement between Washington and Kyiv took place on April 12 in the United States.

An anonymous official from the U.S. Treasury Department confirmed to Reuters the fact of the negotiations, adding that they were technical in nature. Meanwhile, the anonymous source informed Reuters that the tension in the negotiations mainly stemmed from the latest version of the deal proposed by Washington, which was "broader in scope" than the original version.

The sources pointed out that under this adversarial atmosphere, the prospect of achieving a breakthrough in the negotiations was bleak.

At the same time, the sources said that the transaction document included a requirement proposed by the U.S. side, namely, that the U.S. government's International Finance Development Corporation take over the gas pipeline through which Gazprom delivers natural gas to Europe via Ukraine.
