China-Kazakhstan Cooperation: Chip Manufacturing Plant Construction Initiated in Semey, Abay Region, with a Total Project Value of $50 Million
Report from the Kazakh International News Agency, the construction of a chip and electronic equipment production industrial park has been launched in Semey city, with a total project value reaching $50 million. In the future, apart from meeting domestic market demand, the products of this plant are planned to be exported to CIS countries and Europe.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the chip manufacturing plant within the "Production" industrial park in Semey was recently held. Akim (Governor) Berik Vali of the Abay region and foreign investors attended the ceremony. This project is being implemented by the Kazakh-Chinese joint venture company Suto Kazakhstan.
The new factory will produce high-tech products such as chips, optoelectronic modules, intelligent main control units, power modules, energy-saving lamps, and electronic displays.
Previously, during a visit to Altay City in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China led by the Akim of the Abay region, participants attended the International Forum on Sub-regional Economic Cooperation around the Altai Mountains. During this event, the Abay region signed 15 cooperation memorandums worth $1.5 billion with Chinese investors. The groundbreaking of the Semey chip manufacturing plant is the first concrete outcome of this visit.
Akim Vali stated at the groundbreaking ceremony that the project will strongly promote regional economic diversification, create new job opportunities, and promote the development of high-tech industries.
He pointed out: "Today, we are laying the foundation for a high-tech factory in Semey city. This is the first time Kazakhstan has initiated such a production project. During the construction period, 140 jobs will be provided, and after the factory begins operations, more than 500 permanent positions will be created. Local residents, especially citizens of Semey, will participate in the construction work. After the full implementation of the project, monthly salaries for employees are expected to range between 250,000 to 500,000 tenge."
It is worth noting that the enterprise plans to provide production internship opportunities for students of the Higher College of Information Technology and New Technologies in Semey and intends to hire them as regular employees after the internship. A cooperation memorandum has been signed between the college and the enterprise representatives.
Yeernur Bolatuly, founder of Suto Kazakhstan, said: "A modern enterprise producing microcircuits and chips with the 'Made in Kazakhstan' label will be built in Semey city. We have obtained 20 hectares of land. In the first phase, the main factory building and equipment workshops will be constructed. According to the plan, the first building will be completed within 90 days, followed by the start of production of the first batch of products. Our primary goal is to produce chips; such chips were previously only assembled in Kazakhstan rather than autonomously produced."
