Iran has announced the establishment of a three-member transitional committee to handle state affairs after the death of Khamenei. The three individuals are Ayatollah Ali Reza Alavi, a member of the Guardian Council, President Pezeshkian, and Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i. According to Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution, the transitional committee will exercise the functions of state governance until the 88-member Assembly of Experts selects a new Supreme Leader. It remains highly uncertain how long the current regime in Iran will last and what the long-term prospects are. In a video statement on Saturday morning, Trump clearly expressed his hope that the Iranian people would rise up; however, it is equally clear that he has no real plan for what will happen next. Tom Cotton, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, hinted during an interview on Sunday that someone within the Iranian regime might be vying to become the Iranian version of Delsy Rodriguez.
