Ryanair of Ireland wants to buy C919, and someone in the United States jumps first.
According to a report by Reuters, on April 29 local time, a senior US senator warned Ryanair not to purchase aircraft made in China due to so-called "security concerns." Previously, Ryanair's CEO had stated that he would consider purchasing China's C919 aircraft if the price was right.
On April 29 local time, Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democratic congressman from Illinois, wrote a letter to Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary, falsely claiming that COMAC, the Chinese aircraft manufacturer, has close ties with the military and accusing COMAC of stealing intellectual property.
Krishnamoorthi is the Democratic leader of the House "China Committee." In his letter, he also wrote, "With all due respect, American and European airlines should not consider purchasing aircraft from China in the future."
Last month, O'Leary said that if the price was right, he would order C919 aircraft from China. This aligns with previous signals from Ryanair, which intends to seek aircraft outside of Boeing and Airbus.

Ryanair was founded in Ireland in 1985 and now operates more than 1600 routes with 76 hub bases worldwide. It is Europe's largest low-cost airline and one of Boeing's largest customers in Europe.
On January 14, 2021, the US Department of Defense added nine Chinese companies, including COMAC, to a so-called "list related to the Chinese military."
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of China responded, stating that as we all know, well-known Chinese enterprises such as Xiaomi and COMAC are engaged in businesses related to home electronics and civil aircraft. The US accusation that these enterprises support the modernization of the Chinese military and impose restrictions on them has no basis in rules, no procedural fairness, violates basic market economy principles, and disrupts the international financial market order.
