Hiroshi Moriyama, president of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' League, visited Beijing on the 29th to request that China lift its import restrictions on Japanese aquatic products due to the discharge of treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant of Tokyo Electric Power Company and restore imports of Japanese beef.
According to Kyodo News, several Japanese government-related personnel revealed on the 22nd that regarding the tariff measures of the Trump administration of the United States, China has sent a letter to Prime Minister Shibata, calling for joint efforts to respond. The content of the letter appears to emphasize the need to jointly resist protectionism under the situation where the Trump administration has successively introduced high tariffs. Regarding this handwritten letter, there are also people within the Japanese government who propose to "display a dialogue posture and achieve results in resolving difficulties between Japan and China."
While the United States imposes high tariffs on Chinese products such as electric vehicles, Japan provides subsidies to Chinese automobile manufacturers equivalent to those provided to all other battery-powered vehicle producers.
The New York Times reported that Takashi Kawase, professor of international economic law at Sophia University in Tokyo and former official of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, stated: "Japan's economy is deeply integrated with both the United States and China. We cannot put everything in one basket."
