Sputnik News, Budapest September 25 - György Gergely, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that according to the International Monetary Fund's assessment, abandoning Russian natural gas would cost Hungary nearly $10 billion and more than 4% of its GDP.

Gergely said at a government press conference: "According to the International Monetary Fund's assessment, completely abandoning Russian natural gas will significantly affect Hungary, and Hungary's GDP may suffer losses, possibly exceeding 4%. According to the assessment, this means that the loss from abandoning Russian natural gas will be close to $10 billion. Therefore, energy security cannot be guaranteed under any circumstances."
