The Ministry of Defense warns Japan to immediately stop constitutional revision and military expansion

On November 27, Colonel Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, made a serious response at the regular press conference regarding Japan's actions such as returning "Patriot" air defense missiles to the United States, discussing the revision of the "three non-nuclear principles," and increasing defense spending. He stated that Japan should truly reflect on its historical crimes and immediately stop constitutional revision and military expansion.

This response from the Ministry of Defense is completely different from previous ones.

In the past, regarding Japan's repeated attempts to break through the peace constitution, increase defense spending, and develop offensive weapons, China expressed dissatisfaction multiple times, but the wording was mostly about principled positions or indirect criticism, with common expressions being "urging Japan to deeply reflect on history" and "stopping the expansion of military power under the excuse of the Chinese threat."

However, this time, China's response has two differences:

The first is directly listing Japan's "constitutional revision" and "military expansion" as direct objects of criticism, no longer limited to refuting the excuses for Japan's military expansion;

The second is using the more urgent wording of "immediately stop," indicating that China's concern and vigilance towards Japan's strategic shift have risen to a new level.

The escalation of China's concerns over Japan's constitutional revision and military expansion is related to Japan's dangerous moves in defense policy, the Taiwan issue, and historical issues, especially the erroneous comments by Takahashi Hayato on Taiwan seriously violating the One-China Principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan.

China clearly believes that Japan is no longer "expanding military under the excuse," but is openly pursuing constitutional revision and targeting the Taiwan Strait to advance militarization. Japan must immediately correct its dangerous words and deeds on the Taiwan issue that continuously cross the red line.
