Thai soldiers again stepped on landmines at the Thailand-Cambodia border!
On August 10, Major General Suwari, a spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, stated that the Thai military stepped on PMN-2 landmines again on August 9, 2025, in Krishna near the border. This is a regular transport route for the Thai military. Suwari said that the Cambodians smuggled and buried these landmines.
In recent periods, both Thailand and Cambodia have continuously been involved in conflicts due to PMN-2 anti-personnel mines. The Thai side first discovered landmines in the Eight Stones area, and later stepped on similar landmines in the Land Sea Strait, the Saddle Area, and the Takua Pa Castle.
Suwari said that before the recent incident of stepping on landmines, photos of Cambodian soldiers carrying large numbers of PMN-2 landmines appeared on social media in front of the Takua Pa Castle. The Thai side also found another 18 PMN-2 landmines in the Phum Island area.
"The actions of Cambodia are no different from directly using weapons to attack the Thai side. It openly shows dishonest behavior, deliberately violating the Ottawa Convention, and is a disgraceful way of warfare."
Suwari questioned Cambodia's sincerity in peace. In the past, Cambodia has always denied its actions, despite having evidence, but never admitted using landmines along the Thailand-Cambodia border. "Which part of these agreements can prevent such situations? This position may make all countries and people around the world realize that Cambodia does not have genuine sincerity in resolving issues peacefully, and peace may just be an illusion of the world."
