Foreign media: The China Institute of Atomic Energy has tested a new passive decay heat removal system for the fourth-generation fast neutron reactor. This type of reactor can recycle nuclear waste and has a higher resistance to meltdowns.

Fast reactors use high-energy neutrons, making them more efficient than traditional water-cooled reactors. Some fast reactors can act as breeder reactors, converting consumed nuclear fuel into more fissile material for reuse.

In addition, this type of reactor uses liquid metal (such as sodium) as a coolant and achieves closed-loop recycling and reprocessing of fuel within the same facility.
