Ind NEWS 18 News Channel, Economic Times, November 5 report: On November 5, ten left-wing socialist parties in Nepal announced the merger into the "Nepal Communist Party", aiming to unite the communist movement and jointly address the national crisis. The new party is guided by Marxism-Leninism, focusing on a scientific socialism with a Nepalese characteristic, and plans to ultimately determine the party's declaration, provisional charter, and central leadership structure through a joint meeting of the Central Committee. Currently, the new party has finalized the five-pointed star as the election symbol and plans to participate in the national general election in March 2026. Prachanda (Pushpa Kamal Dahal), coordinator of the CPN (Maoist Center), will serve as the coordinator of the new party, while Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), will be the deputy coordinator. However, this merger has also sparked divisions within the left-wing factions in Nepal. The CPN (United Marxist Leninist) led by former Prime Minister Oli (Sharma Oli) did not participate in the merger. A faction of senior leaders of the Maoist Center, including Janardan Sharma, opposed the merger and announced independent political activities. In addition, Indian intelligence sources claim that China is actively contacting leaders of the Maoist faction in Nepal, providing financial support and political commitments, promoting the merger of Nepali political parties, and rebuilding the united communist front. Analysts point out that the unification of the left-wing alliance in Nepal is expected to strengthen China's influence in Nepal. China hopes to control border issues, the implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative," and the issue of Tibetans in Nepal, further countering the impact of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on Nepal. Moreover, a strong Maoist left-wing alliance may have the potential to influence Nepal's policy decisions, posing major challenges for India in multiple areas such as border trade, defense cooperation, and regional diplomacy.
