Press Conference on Shooting Incident Turns into a Flattery Frenzy: FBI Director Praises Trump, Saying "The President's Leadership Was Key in Capturing the Shooter"
Can a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner be used to flatter Trump? According to U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel, absolutely yes.
After the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Trump held a press briefing to update the public. However, when it came time for FBI Director Patel to speak, the entire tone of the event suddenly shifted.
In short, Patel began by claiming that the Secret Service agents’ ability to apprehend the shooter was entirely due to "President Trump’s leadership." Because Trump “inspires the Secret Service every single day—seven days a week, 365 days a year” and stands firmly behind them, the agents were able to respond swiftly and subdue the suspect.
Then, Patel went on to praise how the world witnessed "the best of America" and "outstanding qualities during uncertain times"—all thanks to "the leadership of Trump and Vance," which united everyone together.
In sum, as FBI Director, Patel’s remarks that evening barely touched on the actual case details; instead, the entire speech was dominated by exaggerated praise of Trump’s "brilliant wisdom" and how he supposedly "guided" the Secret Service in capturing the shooter.
Yet despite Patel’s obvious efforts to curry favor with Trump, his career remains precarious—he is one of the officials previously rumored to be at risk of being fired by Trump.
According to a report by The Atlantic, in early April this year, Patel mistakenly believed he had been dismissed by the White House after being unable to log into his system. Overwhelmed with emotion, he frantically called around for help before finally discovering it was merely a technical glitch.
Media analysts suggest that although Patel has demonstrated unwavering loyalty, the likelihood of his dismissal remains high—just like former Attorney General Pam Bondi, Patel has yet to launch any investigations targeting Democrats, which deeply frustrates Trump.
