Korean Media: Electrolyte Prices Surge 40%, China Holds 86% of the Global Market!
On December 11, Korean media "Today Digital" published an article stating that the demand for electrolytes in electric vehicles is increasing, and Chinese companies hold 86% of the global market share.
According to data released by SNE Research, from January to September this year, the total amount of electrolytes used in registered electric vehicles worldwide was approximately 993,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 40.4%. In addition to the Chinese market, electrolyte consumption during the same period reached 327,000 tons, up 33.7%, continuing the trend of sustained demand growth.
Electrolyte is the core material in lithium-ion batteries that enables the movement of lithium ions, directly affecting the battery's charging speed, energy efficiency, stability, and service life. With the expansion of the electric vehicle market and the continuous growth in demand for high-power batteries, the electrolyte market is expected to maintain rapid growth in the medium to long term.
From January to September 2025, the main suppliers in the global electrolyte market all showed significant growth. Tianci's electrolyte sales increased by 31% year-on-year to 225,000 tons, maintaining its leading position in the market; BYD followed closely, with a sales growth of 12% to 160,000 tons. New Century Technology saw a sales growth of 96% to 152,000 tons; Guotai Huarong's sales slightly increased to 65,000 tons; Sain's sales grew by 30% to 38,000 tons. South Korean company ENCHEM (43,000 tons) also maintained a strong growth momentum.
In terms of market share by country, Chinese companies still dominate the electrolyte market. As of the third quarter of 2025, Chinese companies accounted for 85.9% of the market share, while South Korean and Japanese companies accounted for 8.7% and 5.3%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, this figure has slightly decreased. SNE Research analysis pointed out that as the dominant position of Chinese companies continues to consolidate, how non-Chinese companies ensure their competitiveness has become a serious challenge.
SNE Research predicts, "In the future, the electrolyte market may undergo restructuring around complex competitive factors, so companies that actively build customer-specific technology response capabilities and strategic partnerships will take the lead in the future market."
