China has successfully tested the world's most powerful flying wind power station.
The South China Morning Post reported: "From September 19 to 21, a blimp-type wind turbine named S1500 completed a test flight in the desert of Xinjiang in western China, generating 1 megawatt of electricity during the process. The turbine is about the size of a basketball court and its height is comparable to a 13-story building, making it the first flying wind turbine in the world to achieve this level of power generation."
The test included equipment assembly in the desert, pressure testing, and starting and launching the unit under strong winds during day and night.
Sawes Energy Technology (Sawes Energy Technology, transliteration), one of the core research and development providers of the project, said: "All the set goals have been achieved."
As previously reported by Eurasia Daily News, by the first half of 2025, the total power generation from China's wind and solar power stations was equivalent to 1.5 years of Russia's annual electricity consumption. China's renewable energy power generation reached 1.799 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 15.6% year-on-year. Among them, the installed capacity of wind power increased to 573 gigawatts (GW), and the installed capacity of solar power increased to 1.1 terawatts (TW).
