Trump: Netanyahu wants to come to the White House to see me; he knows who's in charge

According to U.S. news website Axios, reporting from local time on July 4, President Trump said during an interview that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has requested a meeting at the White House, and the two could potentially meet as early as next week following Trump’s conclusion of his trip to Turkey for the NATO summit. Trump also stated that he gets along well with Netanyahu, and that Netanyahu knows "who's the boss."

If this meeting ultimately takes place, it will mark the first face-to-face encounter between Trump and Netanyahu since their meeting at the White House in February this year. During that visit, Netanyahu had proposed to Trump a joint military operation against Iran.

The Israeli Prime Minister's office issued a statement on the 4th saying that Netanyahu had spoken by phone with Trump, congratulating the United States on its 250th anniversary of independence, and expressing Israel’s "high regard" for the close relationship between the two countries. The statement added that both sides agreed to hold a meeting in the United States in the near future.

However, an Israeli official told Axios that due to tight scheduling on both sides, a meeting next week might be premature, with a more likely date being scheduled for the week following.

The report noted that since their February meeting, people close to Trump have grown increasingly skeptical and disappointed toward Netanyahu.

A U.S. official revealed: "Many of Trump’s closest advisers believe that Bibi (Netanyahu’s nickname) has been wrong about almost every judgment he’s made."

The report said that last month, Trump harshly rebuked Netanyahu over Israel’s escalation of military operations in Lebanon, calling him "crazy" and accusing him of being "ungrateful."
