Billionaire Elon Musk achieved his dream on the 3rd because the spaceport "Starbase" of his aerospace exploration technology company SpaceX in Texas received overwhelming support from voters to be upgraded to a new autonomous city.
According to reports by Agence France-Presse, this vote, which was expected to pass smoothly, not only approved the city upgrade but also elected a senior executive of SpaceX as mayor.
Out of the 283 eligible voters, most are employees of the SpaceX base in Boca Chica Bay or people related to the company.

In a post on his social media platform X, Musk wrote: "Texas Starbase is now a real city!"
His post was made after the end of the vote and the unofficial results were announced. Unofficial results from Cameron County showed that 97.7% of voters clearly supported the upgrade plan.
Remi Garza, a voting official from Cameron County, told AFP that although Musk himself was registered to vote, this 53-year-old voter, who was born in South Africa and has been controversial recently, had not voted by the end of early voting on April 29th.
Official documents show that there are nearly 500 people living around the base in Cameron County, and most of the land is owned by SpaceX or its employees. Upgrading to a city will allow Starbase to control building development and permit issuance, bypass other regulatory obstacles, and also allow taxation and the establishment of local laws.
