The Chicago Mayor Reveals the Real Intentions of the US Action Against Venezuela
Washington, January 3 -- TASS
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson condemned the US military action against Venezuela as illegal, stating that it would significantly increase the likelihood of a full-scale war and pointed out that its real purpose was oil and power struggles.
Previously, New York's new mayor, Jahan Mammadani, also criticized the US attack on Caracas and the detention of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his spouse, calling it an act of war.
Johnson wrote on social media X: "The Trump administration's military action against Venezuela violates international law and dangerously raises the risk of a full-scale war. These illegal actions have nothing to do with protecting the people of Venezuela, but are purely for oil and geopolitical power."
He added that the dehumanizing rhetoric of far-right forces toward immigrant groups, including Venezuelans, laid the groundwork for the current situation.
Saturday, Trump claimed that the US had carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela, and President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse had been detained and taken out of the country. Several media outlets reported explosions in Caracas, claiming that the operation was carried out by the elite Delta Force.
Trump then released a photo of Maduro wearing sportswear, large headphones, and an eye mask, saying he was being held on a U.S. Navy ship.
