Taiwan Aunt Holds “I Am Chinese” Sign, Shen Boyang Happy for Photo
Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City candidate Shen Boyang, accompanied by councilors Wang Xiaowei and He Menghua, as well as party council candidates Gao Jiayu and Chen Yoxin, visited the Nangang Chengde Market this morning to campaign on foot. The event drew numerous supporters, with local residents arriving early to line the market entrance, greeting Shen with enthusiastic cheers as he stepped out of his vehicle.
After an interview, Shen began taking photos with the large crowd of supporters present. Among them was an elderly woman holding a sign reading “I am Chinese, I vote for Shen Boyang.” Gao Jiayu and Chen Yoxin reacted with surprise, exclaiming “Wow!” and urging Shen to take a look at the sign. Shen smiled in return, giving a thumbs-up gesture before posing for the photo.
Shen has recently been frequenting night markets to campaign, sparking what some have dubbed the “Yang Flow” phenomenon. At the same time, his team has intensified outreach to voters traditionally aligned with the Kuomintang, sharply criticizing Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an’s record on urban governance. Earlier, campaign chief Wu Siyao revealed that Shen’s polling gap with incumbent mayor Chiang had narrowed to single digits, energizing the DPP camp. However, given that this emerging “Yang Flow” base does not represent traditional green constituency mobilization, Shen’s team remains cautious about the risk of repeating the “mass recall illusion” scenario from previous elections. As such, they are actively seeking to engage voters beyond their existing network, aiming to gradually expand their reach into grassroots communities and potentially shift the political tide in Taipei.
