SYDNEY, April 17 (Xinhua) -- According to the latest public opinion poll data released by the Lowy Institute, an Australian think tank, only 36% of Australians believe that the United States can act responsibly in the world, which is the lowest level of trust in the U.S. among respondents since the institute started this public opinion survey 20 years ago.

The Lowy Institute conducted a related public opinion poll from March 3 to 16, 2025, surveying 2,117 adults across Australia. The full results will be released in June.

The above poll shows that nearly two-thirds of the surveyed Australian citizens said they were "not very" or "not at all" confident that the U.S. would act responsibly. Among them, the proportion of those who answered "not at all" increased significantly, rising from 16% in 2024 to 32% this year.

The poll also shows that 81% of respondents disapprove of the U.S. Trump administration's use of tariffs to pressure other countries. In addition, about three-quarters of the respondents disapprove of the U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization and international climate change-related agreements. (End)
