UK Chancellor of the Exchequer: "Very Stupid" to Decouple from China's Economy!
On April 20th, South Korean media "Global Economics" published an article stating that UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves emphasized that cutting economic ties with China, the world's second-largest economy, is "very stupid."
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, when asked if she would be willing to reduce ties with China to persuade the Trump administration during US tariff negotiations, she made such a response.
Reeves will visit Washington next week for tariff talks with the US, and her remarks are considered to be quite different from what the Trump administration expects.
Previously, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration plans to use tariff threats as leverage to pressure major trading partners into limiting trade with China.
Specifically, he proposed a plan to work with allies to prevent Chinese companies from transferring to avoid tariffs and to block imports of low-cost industrial goods manufactured in China.
Reeves is scheduled to visit the United States next week to attend the IMF annual summit and the G7 finance ministers' meeting, where she is expected to meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen.
