Foreign media: China has launched a new nationwide resource exploration initiative aimed at expanding domestic reserves of strategic resources such as oil, iron ore, copper, aluminum, and rare earth elements, in an effort to enhance self-reliance in resource security.
The Ministry of Natural Resources stated that with rising global demand for critical minerals and evolving geopolitical dynamics, raw materials are increasingly becoming a factor influencing economic security, necessitating greater development of domestic resources.
This campaign, referred to by relevant authorities as the "Mineral Exploration Breakthrough Initiative," focuses on identifying additional large-scale, high-grade deposits. Oil, iron, copper, and aluminum—resources where domestic supply remains insufficient—are prioritized, while China already holds a strong position in the rare earth sector.
Officials noted that expanding resource discovery and extraction capacity is intended to improve self-sufficiency in strategic minerals and strengthen national energy and resource security.
