U.S. Treasury Secretary: Sino-U.S. Economic and Trade Talks Are Becoming More In-Depth, Both Sides Are Strengthening Communication and Understanding
On the 29th, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai attended a press conference after the Sino-U.S. economic and trade talks. A reporter asked whether they thought some issues had become increasingly difficult to resolve during the negotiations.
Yellen responded: "Rather than saying the negotiations are becoming more difficult, I actually think both sides are becoming more in-depth. For example, when we were in Geneva, we discussed a very specific issue regarding magnetic materials; in London, the scope of the negotiations expanded; and here, we have been able to discuss more topics, including mutual reports on economic outlooks. So I would say the opposite is true. The purpose of our frequent meetings is to establish communication channels, deepen understanding, demonstrate respect and mutual cooperation."
Li Chenggang, China's Minister of Commerce and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, also told reporters after the talks that during the past one and a half days, the two sides had held comprehensive and in-depth exchanges on their respective macroeconomic policies, reviewed the consensus reached at the Geneva economic and trade talks and the implementation of the London framework, and gave full recognition to them.
