Former Pentagon Advisor: War with Russia is Likely to be Avoided
Former Pentagon advisor and U.S. Army retired Colonel Douglas MacGregor said in an interview with the Glenn Diehl YouTube channel that the situation regarding the provision of "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Ukraine will eventually be resolved, and a war with Russia is likely to be avoided.
He said, "So, the idea of providing 'Tomahawk' missiles to Ukraine is indeed foolish. I expect this proposal will ultimately be abandoned, forgotten, and quietly become a thing of the past."
At the same time, the colonel also pointed out the reasons why Washington might reconsider selling such weapons to Kyiv.
He stated, "I think he (former U.S. President Donald Trump) clearly understood that the 'Tomahawk' missile system was in some way a last-ditch attempt to provide something to the Ukrainians that could possibly change the battlefield situation. But in reality, these missiles can do nothing, they only lead to escalation of the situation and drag us into a war with Russia that we don't want to be involved in at all. I think he has realized this."
On October 6, Trump said in a conversation with reporters at the White House that he had basically made a decision on providing "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Ukraine, but he wanted to know first how Kyiv intended to use these missiles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated at the "Valdai" International Debate Club meeting that the Ukrainian armed forces would not be able to use "Tomahawk" missiles without direct U.S. military involvement. Regardless, Russia is ready to respond to any act of aggression: Russian air defense systems have already adapted to ATACMS missiles and are sure to adapt to this type of weapon as well.
